Storyboards

These are our storyboards that we created for our promotional video. They are a bit basic, but in between all of these, there are cutaways, so it will not always just be interviews.

Samuel Laycock Proposal

Welcome all here. at the beginning of the process we was faced with the daunting task of creating a corporate video for a school in Tameside! being thrown in  at the deep end. not knowing how to swim as we had not do anything like this before. all support of our tutors was taken and it was up to us to create this product. we were more or less left to our own devices. then we got allocated Samuel laycock. on our first visit  we was faced with a mountain to climb, how to fit all aspects of your school into a short promotional film. through our day three key aspects kept coming up. Safety, school life and the school ethos happiness first all else follows. The well-being of the students.

we were asked to produce the video to entice potential students and parents to your school, I believe with my production team we have achieved and excelled at producing an enticing media product that shows of your school/ staff and students in the best light, including some of your most colourful characters. with out further ado I hand over to you the final product hope you enjoy.

Emails Correspondence

Over the last few days I have been emailing the head teacher of Samuel Laycock about the filming dates. In this blog I will show you some of the emails that I have received from the head teacher of Samuel Laycock. The emails will cover the filming dates and what will consist in the dates of filming. Here are screen shots of the emails that I received.

Shooting Script

Today my team and me went to Samuel laycock special school in Ashton under Lyne. We met a documentary maker (Mr Coker) who works at the school as a inclusion support consultant/ ICT governor. At the start of our day we got a timetable of the students of their location in the school thought out the week. From this we could plan out our schedule for the rest of the filming week. Here is the schedule for the rest of the week.

Here is the shooting script that we came up for on the first day that we were there, as you can see it is a little sparse, this is because we spent most of the morning in a meeting with Mr Coker asking us about the film and what we intend to do.

This was Tuesdays plan, it is a little bit more fuller than Mondays, most of the things on this list we already pre planned from the day before, as we had agreed with Mr Coker and other members of staff that we would be filming these classes/activities.

And this was our timetable for Thursday our last day filming. This has all of the times that we were to be doing interviews with teaching staff and students.

Client Specification

Client specification in this case Samuel Laycock wants the school to come across in the most appealing way selling there school to penitential students and family. which there moto encompasses "happiness first all else follows" showing the positive student and teacher interaction and the environment that the students are gong to be working in. since the school is specialized the client would like the unique aspects of the school to be shown, but with the students at the forefront of the film.

Production Schedule

This is our production schedule outlining all the important dates/deadlines.
Our task was first given to us on the September 15th and we plan to finish everything - paperwork and the actual product for December 18th.

Corporate Film - Word It Out

This is the Word It Out we created for our corporate film, containing the recurring words that we have used/are using throughout the process or the Pre-Production, Filming and Editing.

Interview Questions for Teachers

Explain what the overall goals and achievements  of the school/ ethos of your departments?

Challenges of your job?

How do you cope with the different need of the students?

With a range of different disabilities, how do you accommodate everyone?

Interview Questions for Students

How did you feel when you first come to the school?

Do you feel safe when you attend school?

Favourite aspect/subject at school?

How did you find the transition from Primary to Secondary?

Audience Needs

This film with be created with the parents in mind, as they want their children to be catered for in the best way possible and they want to be reassured that their children are going to be in a safe environment to learn.  They want to make sure that the facilities are up to scratched for their children and their needs and they want to know that they are going to be cared for and they want to feel at ease when they are at work or home. Iana Surch

Equipment Used

The equipment we plan to take to the school is quite minimal but is sufficient for the filming of the corporate film, To film the video we are going to use Canon DSLR cameras these will give us the recording capacity and quality we are looking for, Tripods will be used to keep the shots stable while recording for the video. Additional sound might be required this is why the H2 recorders and additional microphone will be used, the sound from the camera is high quality but in crowded areas the H2 will take over.

Evaluation & Representation of Race/Gender and Religion

Current law relating to race and gender, the equality act 2010 is in place to protect people from discrimination in the workplace and in the media, it sets out to abolish the divides between gender race and disability as well as the stereotypes from previous years regarding jobs. In terms of media, the Equality act have changed the way programmes and films are being created and which actors are hired, soaps now have storylines involving disability and homosexuality, resulting in actors and actresses being more open, all with the conviction to abolish the divides in this generation as well as the next.

When creating a Promotional/ Corporate video a film maker cannot come across as being bias to one side of an argument weather its race, gender or ethnicity. Ethical issues are the moral rules we have in society which aren’t defined in law like the equality act but favour the large majority of the public. Fair representation of each group is all that is asked for. When it comes to making a video the film maker has to make sure they are not seen as taking sides or following the stereotypical image for a certain video. Example a promotional video for Lego, the stereotypical audience is boys as it comes under the genre of construction  toys, the ethics says we they are discriminating gender as girls could also enjoy playing and buying their products. There for their video needs to ensure they not encouraging the gender divide by including both sexes into their videos. The same goes for ethnicity and race as well. Over a number of years the Government has placed legislations to combated discrimination in the UK.  Sex Discrimination act 1975, Race Religion Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. These legislations have been put in place to ensure no matter your Gender, Ethnicity or Disability you will be treated equally.

Samuel Laycock - Curriculum for School

Here is the curriculum for the school, that we were given in the form of a prospectus, it shows the lessons that take place in the school and what pupils are expected you learn and what the teaching is like. In terms of the design of this prospectus, it contains too much information and very text based, the design needs to be re-looked at to make it less text based.

Samuel Laycock's Aim

This is Samuel Laycocks aim from the school prospectus it outlines the key aspects they fine which creates a positive and educational learning environment

About Samuel Laycock

Samuel Laycock is Tameside's secondary school for students with moderate learning difficulties (MLD). With some students being on the Autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), we needed to take into account the difficulties the students have when filming the corporate video.

The school can cater for 100 students with year groups of 20 students and classes of 10.  The school acts like a mainstream secondary with the students moving around the building to attend classes. Each Group has a Teaching assistant that moves with them throughout the day, too each lesson.
KS4 Students have the opportunity to access college or alternatives to build up their confidence in the community.

Email Correspondents

The first contact we had with the school was via a telephone call with the Assistant head confirming location recess to commence on the ....
we exchanged emails and contact details for future information regarding filming dates, locations we wanting to use and other information. Below is the first email we sent introducing ourself's to the customer and outlining the plan of action.

Traveling to location

The location of our school Samuel Laycock is situated in Ashton Under Lyne 4 miles from college, over the three day's of filming Taxi's were required there and back, as it is too long to walk with heavy equipment we will be using as well as the tight requirements of the filming day.

Promotional Video Iphone 6

This promotional video is for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus and it is introducing you to the new phone from the Apple company.
It shows the two phones side by side showing the difference in the sizes. The first to appear is the smaller one - the iPhone 6, with the introduction "This is the iPhone 6" and then the second phone is introduced with the introduction "And this is the iPhone 6 Plus."
The music that is used in this video is a very simple piano melody that you can more or less only hear when the voice over isn't talking.
What they are showing on the phone is how it can keep you healthy and help track fitness eg. How many steps walked, calorie intake etc.
In the advert it's almost like the two phones are in competition with each other to see who can perform the best as the voice overs are saying what each has done, such as "I walked _____ steps." And "I walked _____ flights of stairs."
It is showing one of the many different apps that can be used for measuring weight and goals for peoples fitness.

The style of this video is very simplistic, it doesn’t move around, it is filmed with one straight shot and had transition at the end to the slogan. The simplistic camera shot and the clear imagery showing the phone makes the product look more appealing to the audience.
